Here at the Leisure Lakes we especially welcome senior golfers. Golf is a game that can be taken up at any age. And we have many senior golfers enjoying the facilities every day.

Some of our senior golfers are brand new to the game and others have played golf all their lives. Although the golf course presents a challenge to all golfers, the terrain is relatively flat and the course is not too long. This gives those who are less mobile than they once were an equal chance to enjoy their sport and to play alongside old friends and grandchildren at their leisure.

Richard Benyon - our Head Professional

PGA Golf Professional Class AA

Richard (Richie) turned Professional in 1997 working at Blundell’s Hill Golf Club, moved to further his career to Huyton and Prescott GC and then eventually moved to Southport Golf Academy where he graduated through the PGA diploma programme.

Richie has more than 13 year’s experience of working in the Southport area in which time he hase introduced many juniors into the game of golf through various programmes and we now use the specialist programme he has written.

Richie's client base is long, wide ranging and varied - both men and ladies - many clients have been coming to him for years for refreshers and swing studies. However he is best known for his sterling work with the Juniors we are all proud of here. One of whom has developed to be our Director of Golf, James Carpenter (below)

Richie regularly represents golf clubs in our region and plays in Regional and National Championships when we let him have the time!.

James Carpenter - our Director of Golf

PGA Golf Professional Level One

James, the youngest of our team, but nevertheless a key part of our coaching setup as he has taken a slightly different path towards his coaching abilities. Originally learning the game as a Junior here at the Academy - taught by Richie - he has studied and has degrees in Golf Coaching and Golf Club Management.

Quite apart from working with our Juniors for many years he now has his own growing client base since arriving from Mottram Hall Hotel and Country Club in Cheshire where he was able to work on the swings of several Manchester United players!

James is particularly keen on proper nutrition and diet regimes to suit golfers of all ages and abilities, as well as simple but effective fitness and exercise methods that help players of all ages, shapes and sizes! Over the coming months he will be introducing a range of simple literature to help his clients on this.

James has also studied the latest methods in Junior Golf Coaching and brings this to his colleagues. This will be taken in the coming months around schools and colleges in our region as part of our initiative with the Englihg Golf Union.

He's also our self appointed style guru and has responsibility for our specialist golf shop where we focus on Junior equipment as well as being official Wilson appointed Fitting stockists.

Juniors come high on our list of prorities at the Golf Academy. For the last eight years the Junior Golf Academy has been one of the largest and most successful in the UK.

Golfers who have come through the junior ranks include Mike Kanski who represented the country many times and was Lancashire Champion twice. Mike went onto represent England as an amateur before turning professional. Also Tommy Fleetwood has been coached here by Norman. Tommy has appeared on Sky Sports as an 8 year old prodigy and at the time was reckoned to be the worlds number one for his age. Since then Tommy has won The World Junior Championship, played for the country and is a regular winner in the England team.

Whilst we feel justifiably proud of our golfing high achievers we are equally proud of the many hundreds of children who have grown in self belief and confidence through learning and beginning to master golf.

Juniors can come along aged 6-14 and join one of our junior groups that run at weekends throughout the year. The courses run over eight weeks and are at the same time every weekend.

We have developed our own coaching programme which is at the same time fun and exciting, and allows children of all abilities to be included. During the lessons we follow a nationally recognised format and golfing passport scheme supported by the Golf Foundation.

If you prefer your child to have one to one tuition that can be arranged at times to suit you

Individual junior lessons £15 for 30 minutes including range balls.

Course of 6 individual junior lesson £75 including range balls.

Junior Golf Academy £75 for 8 hours tuition including all equipment, hire, course materials and certificates.

Junior Competitions

At the end of each course of lessons we have a competition for all junior academy pupils who have completed the first two levels.

The competition is over 9 holes and is open to any child who feels like having a go. All the children are given a handicap that is adjusted depending on how they perform. This means that children of all abilities get the chance to win. The competition is divided into boys and girls with prizes for the top three in each category.

Summer Camps

We have a wide variety of activities for children to get involved in over the school holidays for both children who play golf and those who just want to give it a try give us a call for details or check out our up coming events page.
